Frequently Asked Questions
What you want to know
What is an orthodontist?
In Belgium, orthodontics can be practised by a general dentist or by a dentist specialising in orthodontics. The title of specialist, recognised by the INAMI, is awarded after several years of full-time university specialisation dedicated exclusively to orthodontics, in addition to the five years of general dentistry. Dr Roig holds this qualification, with INAMI registration number 3-00607-93-007.
At what age should a child have their first consultation?
From the age of 6 or 7, when the first permanent teeth appear. This initial assessment does not necessarily lead to immediate treatment: it allows the dentist to monitor development, detect any potential problems and, if necessary, intervene at the most appropriate time. An early consultation does not mean early treatment, but it does allow action to be taken at the right time, if needed.
Clear aligners or fixed braces: which to choose?
Both options deliver excellent results. The choice depends on your clinical situation, your personal preferences and your lifestyle. Invisalign aligners are clear and removable; fixed braces remain in place at all times. During the initial consultation, Dr Roig will outline the options available to you and help you make your decision.
Is orthodontic treatment painful?
In the first few days after each adjustment (fixed braces) or aligner change (Invisalign), you may experience slight pressure or sensitivity: this is a sign that the treatment is working.
Is orthodontic treatment reimbursed in Belgium?
For orthodontic treatment, the INAMI provides, under certain conditions, a flat-rate contribution paid by your health insurance provider. However, some supplementary insurance policies offer additional cover, including for adults, depending on your policy. Our team will assist you with the necessary procedures and provide you with all the required certificates.
